This research project aims to: 1) classify adrenal diseases that prove difficult to clinically diagnose and treat as “Intractable Adrenal Diseases”, regardless of the benign or malignant nature of the condition; 2) compile sufficient evidence required to improve the clinical practice of intractable adrenal diseases; and, 3) conduct research for the development of new diagnostic procedures and drugs to address intractable diseases.

The adrenal research topics consist of diseases which engender excess adrenal hormones such as Primary Aldosteronism, Pheochromocytoma, ACTH-independent Macronocular Adrenocortical Hyperplasia (AIMAH) or Bilateral Macronodular Adrenal Hyperplasia (BMAH), Cushing syndrome, Subclinical Cushing syndrome, and Adrenocortical Carcinoma.

This research project is a comprehensive complex of individual clinical studies in relation to adrenal diseases and disorders. Each of these studies are expected to collaborate closely with one another and thus insuring no overlap and leading to an efficient system which effectively produces concrete outcomes. This project will also take upon the role of managing the research and relaying reliable information to the public, as well as our society as a whole.

Our short to medium term objectives are to: 1) construct databases for individual intractable diseases; 2) initiate both the Biobank and Medical Genome project; and, 3) establish a framework for Doctor-initiated clinical research and trials relating to new medical diagnosis and treatment.
